Fibromyalgia and some insights.

Step five: cognitive dificulties and fibromyalgia.

This subject is right up my street. I feel I have helped my mum and my dad and most of all, because I take over 50 supplements a day and fast till after 5pm 6 days a week and eat keto and exercise most days, myself! This is completely fixable. There is no need to live in a fog. I remember before all these supplements, keto and fasting, that if I got a flu/cold, that I would talk to people about feeling like I was behind glass, not quite in touch with the world. Now ofcourse, I know what was going on. Because I was so malnutritioned the virus would tip my body into a survival state. There is a similar state that is realised when in shock. Also some people actually feel the affects of stress in this way too.

Brain fog and malnutrition.
I would also add that there are toxins that add to this brain fog melaise too. My earlier research into ADHD led to some discoveries that go some way to explain attention deficit I would say this was most likely, amongst other things, because of malnutrition. This is not very scientific, but as you know, with complex systems I am not a big fan of the scientific approach. Similarly as most mothers will testify that certain foods that contain certain ingredients will send their children a little bit hyperactive!

Supplements to help the brain.
So start there. Choline is concentrated lecithin, but lecithin also contains phosphorus, inositol and linoleoic acid, which gives extra protection against heart disease, it also helps with brain function, so this may be good to know. so take upto a gram of that a day too. including some cases of senility and also lowering cholesterol, so let that be the next, and take upto 3g a day in divided doeses. Next ofcourse is vitamin c, and more than 3g a day is a good guide. Next is b2 riboflavin and b12 and b6, only 500mg of b2 is enough. B12 and B6 should be taken together. Most suppliers supply high does of these already. However, in extreme cases taking them three times through out the day will give you an indication of how much you might need. Tyrosine is an amino acid that helped me congnitively, but if you are not taking iodine in sufficient quantities it might put a drain on your HPA axis, see above.

The brain needs a stable glucose supply too. So eating foods low on the will be a good place to start. Having sugar levels in the blood that are too low are also a problem. Any meat or protein with non starchy vegetables will surfice. Eating at regular intervals until you manage to bring your sugar levels under control is necessary before considering intermittent fasting.

Glucose readings
I would probably just go with the Amazon suggested option. The best time to take your sugar readings is within the first hour of waking. This gives what is called a fasting blood sugar reading. It is realatively unafected by what was eaten the night before, however, you will find in time that certain foods or drinks will affect the morning fasting blood sugar levesls. The readings you are looking are going to be in either dl or mmols (millimoles): 100 dl if the machine comes out with figures around the 100 decilitres mark. This is the equivalent to 5 mmols. 80 dl is considered low but 75 dl is considered too low or 5 mmols. Similarly, if your readings are as high as 110 dl that is kind of OK, or 6 mmols, If your numbers start to get above 120 dl or 7 mmols some would say that is too high and you could be labeled pre-diabetic. Above 120 dl is considered diabetic.

Lectins and Fibromyalgia.
Lectins are an aggravating factor here. It often does not hit people too hard if they are young, but not always. These lectins have the potential to disrupt all sorts of things in the body including, but not restricted to, arthritis, eyesight, intestinal problems, inflamation, virus proliferation and chronic illness. This subject has been covered by

Laying it on the line.
Your question here might be since sugar affects my pancreous, HPA axis, and neuropathy and potentially the fundamental question of auto immunity too, what is one to do to fix this sugar/starch/lectin problem? The answer to this question has evaded millions of British and Americans diabetics sufferers, but it will not evade you because I will lay it on the line here. Even though the American and British Diabetics asociations have stated that there is I will stand against this view. I will do more than this, I will say that it is not only sugar. The three big starches are also factors in this story, which are wheat, rice and potato. Along with all other grains this would be no surprise to

Three months?
So let us assume you have switched away from grains, lectins, sugar, and do exercise and basically eat keto, which is protein and vegetables with lots of olive oil sprinkled on your daily veg or salad and or any other non grain oil, such as coconut oil, flaxseed, avacado and even ghee. How long will it take to see some results? Good question. If your decline was meteoric than I would guess that once you have alinged everything including your mind set, that of making your peace, and being present and thankful for what you still have, and that you have established a routine of when and what supplements you take, and you manage to keep your routine going for 3 months than you might look back and say, OK things are getting better.

Six months!
But if your decline took many many years, before your body finally gave in, than this might take a little bit longer. However, even in these cases it is possible to speed up the process. Personally I fit into this category, infact probably a bit of both. I could not believe I was weak and so I pushed myself into the ground to prove that it was true. Thus using up any resources left.

Intermittent fasting.
The way to speed up this process is with intermittent fasting. I have tried the 3 and 5 day fasts, but they did not agree with me. My re-feed became uncontrolled and it endded up making me ill with infections. So I decided to do a daily fast 6 days a week. This idea was proposed by Here he says that intermittent fasting will arrest diabeties.

Detox can be scary.
It can be really difficult to combine intermittent fasting with the keto diet along with exercise and protein and veg on a lectin free diet, which might include excluding dairy and all grains, but it would accelerate the healing process. But it would also accelerate the detoxing process which can be painful and even dangerous. So if you space out all these changes with a two to three week gap, and take magnesium 800mg, zinc 66mg, selenium 400mcg, and boron 30mg along with drinking a glass of water with half a teaspoon of Himalayan seasalt dissolved into it, because this allows more active molecules (toxins) to bind with the salt as it leaves the body, after they have been released into the blood stream, due to the other supplements and exercise.

Find someone to help you through this. Really.
This toxin problem is not nothing, it could easily be so uncomfortable that you think you are ill again or getting worse. There is a thing called keto flu, which is no small thing and cannot be rushed as it requires the birth or re-cycling of new mitochondria, there are also serious problems with the bromide detox, including swelling. Also this process of cutting carbs will have you climbing the walls if you were a carb junky, so do one change at a time and hold on. It will be worth every effort and sacrifice. You might need someone who knows what you are going through to help during the tough times. So get them onboard before you begin.

Step Six Fatigue

This is a major part of Fibromyalgia. I have briefly mentioned above mitochondria. There are similarities between Fibromyalgia and any mitochondria myopathy and the good news is that The supplements used here were 300mg of co-q10, and 1000mg of creatine, and 200mg of carnitine and 1mg of folic acid four times through the day.

Mitochondria and Co-q10.
We each have approximately 50 trillion cells in our bodies, and apart from red blood cells each one contains some 2000 mitochondria, these mitochondria may be in as high concentrations as 10,000 in eyes and brain cells and heart, and even as high as 70,000 in a womens egg. It is achieved by mostly recycling ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate), which is lucky because we each use approximately 70lb worth of ATP a day! Yes you heard that correctly. It is really a miracle of life. It does this by recycling 96% of what it used yesterday, so we only need to top it up each day with some good mitochondrial food. But this process has a demand for some nutrition. Co-q10 is used in the electron chain of the respiration process withing the mitochondria. This is interesting because So I would suggest lets make sure we take some of this, especially since it declines with age and by the time we reach 50 it could be almost gone from our bodies. Co-q10 is found concentrated around the heart. Is it a coincedence that heart attacks happen at about the same time we run out co-q10? 200mcg to 400mcg a day.

The creatine phosphate shuttle.
The next supplement creatine helps with making more ATP in the creatine phosphate shuttle, and carnitine helps with the movement of fatty acids into the mitochondria, and folic acid is what is called a co-factor. What that means is that without it somethings cannot happen. A little bit like trying to make a tea without water. Therefore that means that water is not only a co-factor for tea, but now we can see how it is actually essential for a lot things to happen. So make sure you take your folic acid or things will not happen. But this patient also took 1000g of creatine and 200mg of carnitine.

Metabolic health.
The mitochondria are a big topic on their own. The mitochondria are said to operate better on a keto diet. She is not the only one. In his book He also recomends his patients follow a keto diet whilst recovering from cancer. His success rate stands at 94% recovery.

Step Seven Genetic

There does seem to be a genetic disposition in some cases to diseases that run in families. I always thought that this was as much to do with the food and exercise habits passed down generation to generation too. Recently there has been a surge in research surrounding epigenetics. It seems that for every genetic disposition there also appears to be a multitude of epigenetic possibilities affecting that gene programming. It has even been seen that traits affected in one lifetime through whilst leaving the hard coded genome itself intact. What epigenetics seems also to be be capable of is turning aspects of our genome on or off. So we can inherit affected/infected changes made to our genome through epigeneic inheritance.

So we might have a say in our future health.
How does all this affect Fibromyalgia? Well two things are clear here. One is that what we inheritance from our parents is our parents gift to us for good or bad and changes in our life time to our epigenetics ability to switch on or off our genes, through environmental changes, are our gift to our children and our selves. So still the question remains, How does this affect my Fibromyalgia? Well looking back to just before one recieved the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and asking was there an event or two that preceeded it? The answer could be subtle, like a chronic decline until the perverbial straw broke the camels back or the answer could be a sudden event that was very stressful on the body and mind or even both. So what does this mean for a newly diagnosed sufferer? Well what it does mean is that your condition maybe partly environmental, and the good thing about this is that, maybe another environmental change may push things back the other way. so the evidence is mounting and I guarentee everyone with a condition either inherited or created in their lifetime are pushing forward on the

Which way to go from here?
However, my view on this is more down the road of natural epigenetic interventions. There is a type of practice called and here is a paper whilst a methyl rich diet induced many positive epigenetic changes for the positive in regards to cell apoptosis, (which is our bodies ability to get rid of dangerous old cells which goes some way to help prevent cell mutation). This site suggests that taking Although in this case they have their own vitamins, there own in house propriety blend. It is not necessary in my opinion to buy from a one stop shop, there are always new and improved products out there on the market. To aid in getting the best methyl products. The focus with epigenetics and orthomolecular medicine is to give your genes the best chance. This revolves around what is called methyl donnors. These are simply vitamin supplements. The ones to get are: Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Methylfolate, Vitamin B12 in the form of Methylcobalamin, Choline, Betaine (trimethylglycine, TMG), Magnesium, and Zinc. The reason for taking selenium is because you will going through a lot of poptosis and detoxing from heavy metals and bad molecules like bromide. These chemicals and metals need something to stick to, so they can be carried out of the body.

Back to the top of the page.

Step Eight Trauma

Trauma fits in really nicely in this cascade of destruction, because, stress is nearly always associated with cortisol, amonst other stress hormones like adrenaline and norepinephrine. because it can damage a lot of funcions in the body including sleep (insomnia), CFS chronic fatique syndrome thyroid disorders, depression, and has been implicated in dementia. Moreover, the list extends to metabolism (The function of your ATP), glucose regulation, blood pressure and anti-imflamatory mechanism. There is a correlation between Iodine will help keep cortisol under control. There is also a relationship between cortisol and too much sugar in our blood stream. When stessed our B vitamins are used up at a huge pace. If we were not taking any b vitamins then this just makes the situation worse. The real question is: Is cortisol just using up all these nutrients, end of story. Or is there a more concrete relationship? Would cortisol become manageable if we had enough of what it is using up in our bodies? The answer to that is yes in my opinion. So if we fill ourselves with what cortisol needs, then there are two benefits. 1st the cortisol will do less damange and 2nd we will still have enough of our vitamins left to keep our bodies running in tip top condition.

Weight gain.
If one was to begin gaining weight this might be a sign of a stress related symptom. The reason for this is explained perfectly in this where she says amongst other things that the reason we have to keep fat levels down is that viseral fat contains more cortisol receptors than normal fat. This may give us the problem of being forced to bath in a sea of chemicals when ever we get triggered in a process that is becoming increasingly out of our control. Weight loss if you are caught in this chemical whirl wind is almost impossible. Rapid weight gain is a signal to GPs that something serious is amock. The good news is that if you are not sleeping, than that is another reason why rapid weight gain may happen. It is almost if not immpossible to lose weight whilst not sleeping properly, so says the So weight gain is normal whilst not sleeping.

Helping the adrenals
So what else can I do besides taking iodine and cutting sugars and starches from my diet and doing a little exercise everyday, and taking the supplements that you have suggested that of: Vitamins C 3g -12g, B1 1g, B2 500mg, B3 1g - 3g, B8 (Insoltol), B5 (pantanic acid), Lecithin from sunflower, Boron 30mg, Magnesium 800mg, Zinc 66mg, Selenium 200mcg - 400mcg (upto half a mg - NOT half a gram). Well one can consider help with controling your cortisol? Because, you are right to think that fixing sleep and cortisol levels and controlling sugar come before worrying about mitochondrial health, which in itself is said in some quarters to be at the route of the Fibromyalgia condition. Well there are some supplements that help sooth the adrenals. This site says
